Business-Critical: How to Take Innovation to the Next Level
Being able to capitalize on innovation is critical to the success of every company.
A new Gartner report shows that to succeed, the entire organization must be deeply involved.
“Vocean is the perfect tool to use in your innovation process. It’s highly inclusive, and all the smart ideas come to the surface,” says Daniel Kassell, CEO of Vocean.
Companies need innovation to drive growth and achieve development. The problem is that once the ideation phase is complete, few organizations succeed in scaling up the innovation and bringing it to market.
According to the new Gartner report, the innovation leader must focus on three things—ownership, behavior, and process. It has been observed that innovations often fail because colleagues do not collectively feel a sense of ownership of the idea, there is resistance to behavioral change, and the transition from groundbreaking ideation to a professional project process is not successfully achieved.
“This problem is common, and in many cases, it may require a major turnaround to overcome it. But by involving the entire organization in the process, we’ve come a long way.” Furthermore, when employees are allowed to participate in the innovation and decision-making process, there is greater acceptance of the conclusions reached collectively,” says Daniel Kassell.
He offers the following advice:
- Ensure that everyone involved feels a shared sense of ownership. If large parts of the organization feel a sense of ownership over a change, the likelihood that it will be implemented successfully increases.
- Address organizational resistance by focusing on the challenges that the innovation can solve.
- Develop innovation processes by ensuring a clear transition from exploratory idea generation to project-based processes.
- Ensure that the experts needed to scale and implement the innovation are recruited deliberately and early on.
